4 Day Northwest Wildflower Explorer (September, 5, 12, 19, 26 ) - NW4:

- DAY 1 (LD) -
Perth - Geraldton
Depart Perth heading North through the vineyards and beautiful Swan
Valley, before joining the Brand Highway at Muchea. As we leave
the Darling Scarp the air becomes drier, the richer soils give way
to sandy plains, and soon the unique floral varieties of this region
begin to appear. Today we will stop wherever the flowers are out,
possibly detouring off the main highway through Dandaragan and Badgingarra.
Enjoy a picnic lunch among the bush before rejoining the highway
and travelling on to our night stop at Geraldton. Overnight: Geraldton
- DAY 2 (BLD) -
Geraldton - Kalbarri
Today will be spent north of Geraldton on an excursion to the pretty
crayfishing & holiday town of Kalbarri. En route we travel through
historic Northampton before turning off the highway at Ajana, keeping
an eye out for the local species that our Botanical Guide is keen
to share with us. As we enter the Kalbarri National Park, the coastal
scrub thickens and we will notice smaller trees of banksia and hakea
dotted amongst the heath. Visit the Hawkes Head Lookout at the Murchison
River Gorges and see how the wind and water have carved the soil
over time. Travelling South along the coast, with an opportunity
to stop at the rugged coastal gorges at Red Bluff. This area is
steeped in early exploration history, but also offers beautiful
coastal flora species. Overnight: Kalbarri.
- DAY 3 (BLD) -
Kalbarri - Geraldton
Leaving the coast we head inland to Mullewa, via the "Wildflower
Way", including Coal Seam National Park, known to be abundant
with everlastings. We will have plenty of time to stop and enjoy
nature's colourful bounty. Continue onto Tardun, looking out for
the rare wreath flower, before returning back to Geraldton. Overnight:
Geraldton
- DAY 4 (BL) -
Geraldton - Perth
Our final day discovers the delights of the Midlands region, enjoying
the flowers en route. If time permits we'll visit historic New Norcia,
which is the home of the Benedictine Monastery, Abbey and Nursery,
with its distinctive architecture that silhouettes beautifully against
the Australian landscape. After our picnic lunch we return to Perth
on a scenic route at the discretion of your experienced coach captain
and botanical guide - perhaps through the beautiful Chittering Valley
or maybe there are still some last minute flowers to be discovered
back toward the coast! Arrive back into Perth early evening
